13th International Conference on the Chemistry of Antibiotics and other bioactive compounds
Japanese

Welcome to ICCA-13

The International Conference on the Chemistry of Antibiotics and other bioactive compounds (ICCA) was held in Aussois, France in 1988 and has been held in the world every about two years since then and places where conferences were held are Europe at a ratio of one to two times, Japan at a ratio of one to four times, and US at a ratio of one to four times. Especially in Japan, the second International Conference (a chairman of the executive board: Professor Dr. Masaji Ono) was held in Oiso in 1990 and the 8th International Conference (a chairman of the executive board: Professor Dr. Kuniaki Tatsuta) was held in Tokyo in 2002, and about 500 researchers participated in any of them which largely contributed to development of Japanese chemical industry.
The main purpose of this International Conference is discussing important issues which researches of bioactive and biological active substances derived from microorganisms containing antibiotics are facing from a chemical standpoint. A high level of discussion has been always developed so far, and important proposals leading to future perspectives of not only basic study but also application study of synthetic organic chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry and microbial chemistry have been made. The outcome thereof has been highly evaluated each time and made large impacts internationally and this International Conference is now approved as one of renowned international conferences in the world.
This time, it has been decided that the 13th International Conference on the Chemistry of Antibiotics and other bioactive compounds will be held at Yamanashi Prefecture Fuji-View Hotel (foot of Mt. Fuji, lakeside of Lake Kawaguchi) on September 24 to 27, 2013 under the sponsorship of the Chemical Society of Japan; the Pharmaceutical Society of Japan; Japan Society for Bioscience, Biotechnology and Agrochemistry; Japan Antibiotics Research Association; and the Society of Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan.
At this 13th Conference, about 20 foreign and domestic researchers who are active in the front line targeting researches on from discovery to structural determination of bioactive natural products derived from microorganisms, biosynthesis, chemical biology and especially from basic study of synthetic organic chemistry to industrial synthetic study of pharmaceuticals readily agreed on giving plenary and invited lectures. Accordingly, we believe that a higher level of discussion than ever will be developed and many outcomes will be obtained such as research and development of new pharmaceuticals and application to process chemistry through synthesis and development of bioactive substances and biologically active substances.
In view of interdisciplinary nature of this conference, many (about 250) foreign and domestic researchers such as synthetic chemists, pharmaceutical chemists, biochemists and process researchers from industry, academia and government will be expected to participate in this conference. And many young researchers and graduate students responsible for the next generation will be expected to participate and reinforced government-industry-academia collaboration as well as communication and cultivation of next-generation researchers will be further expected.

Chairman, Professor Dr. Toshiaki Sunazuka
